Women who rock
Along with men in the rock industry, many female icons used and have used Gibson guitars in their music.
Joan Jett
During Joan's days in the band The Runaways, she would typically use a Gibson Les Paul guitar. When she became solo and was recording Joan Jett and the Blackhearts the main guitar she used was a Gibson Melody Maker. “I played it on ‘I Love Rock ’n’ Roll,’ ‘Crimson and Clover,’ ‘Do You Want to Touch Me,’ ‘Bad Reputation’…all those early records. It’s an unbelievable-looking guitar. I have it in a closet and I take it out occasionally to record. I’m actually kind of afraid to bring out the original. It’s got a great heritage. It’s a guitar full of hits,” Jett told Guitar World.
Nancy WILSON
Nancy Wilson is considered the original female rock guitarist. Starting in the early 70s with her rock songs like "Crazy On You and "Magic Man". Nancy and her sister formed the group Heart and created rock and roll hits like "Barracuda" and "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You". These songs were both filled with Nancy's heavy riffing on guitar. Nancy has a signature Gibson Nighthawk along with other Gibson Guitars.
